The last airport in the region does not fit in portrait. Neither, frankly, does the famine. Rotate to landscape to take the chair.

Emergency Aviation Directive 7-B

Skeleton
Crew

The famine took the staff. It took the supervisors. It took, eventually, the supervisors’ supervisors. By statute, the airfield must remain operational, and by statute, the next available body assumes the chair.

The next available body is a raccoon. That is you now. Inbound aircraft carry insulin, blood, and several hundred passengers who think they’re landing at a normal airport in a normal year. Break it to them gently — by not crashing them.

You are the only controller. Here’s the job.

1 Drag them to a runway
Draw a path from any aircraft to a runway. Arrivals come in and land; a parked departure taxis out and takes off. That is the entire control scheme.
2 One strip, one aircraft
Never send two onto the same runway, and keep their paths from crossing — in the air or on the ground. Two that touch is a fireball, and a long new row on the casualty list.
3 Mind the fuel ring
The ring around an arrival is its fuel; around a departure, its patience. Let either empty out and you lose the aircraft. A red mayday flight jumps the whole queue.
4 Beat the four minutes
A shift is four minutes and gets busier the whole way down. Land and launch as many as you can, build a clean streak for combo points — and if the toll hits 1,000, the field closes for good.
